Hairstyle: Try Something Edgy for Summer!

They say change is as good as a holiday. If you won’t be sunning yourself somewhere tropical this year, we have the next best thing: an updated edgy summer hairstyle. Who said holiday style had to be all floaty and feminine anyway? We’re taking inspiration from these stylish stars and going edgy for summer.

Wavy with a Twist

We’re used to seeing actress Shay Mitchell wearing her brunette hair in long, flowing locks. So this high ponytail with fine braids along the side of her head makes a welcome change. Her go-to hairstylist Chris Appleton is an ardent fan of experimenting with new styles and fads. Speaking to People magazine, the British native disclosed his styling motto: “I like to set trends, not follow them. I’m always excited to push boundaries. I try to keep my work edgy and inspirational but still wearable and beautiful.”

To make sure your style stays in place, you can’t go wrong with these three must-have products that Appleton swears by. “I love to prep hair with Bed Head by TIGI’s Superstar Queen for a Day Thickening Spray because it gives the hair texture that makes it playable. It’s wonderful,” he told the magazine. “I also love the Oribe’s Dry Texturizing Spray, which creates that right off the beach vibe, but it also gives the hair grip, which is great for keeping hair accessories in place. And then Jen Atkin’s Ouai Hair Oil is really beautiful. No matter what hair type you have, it just gives the hair life.”

A Case of the Blues

Hailey Baldwin heralded in the new season with a fresh new tint for summer. While we doubt it’s her own hair, we can’t help but admire the electric blue shade – very in tune with the current throwback trend of all things 80s inspired. The model is no stranger to experimenting with bold color – remember her marshmallow pink locks at this year’s Met Gala? To keep her hair looking svelte and nourished, hairstylist Jennifer Yepez uses the Kérastase products Densifique Mousse Densimorphose and Crème Magistrale. Another top tip from the hairstylist? “Kerastase Oil is really a staple I think for every girl,” she told Coveteur. “I started using it years ago and I love how it makes my hair feel and helps me to blowdry hair and a great finishing serum. Every girl I know loves it.”

Award-winning Style

Who else but Jennifer Lopez could give us one of the summer’s most enviable styles? Hairstylist Lorenzo Martin styled the singer’s shoulder-length hair into an edgy choppy ‘do for this year’s Billboard Music Awards. The California hairdresser has styled the singer’s tresses for ten years mow and revealed to Harper’s Bazaar Arabia just why he loves working with her: “She’s had every colour, every length, she’s had it full, big, gigantic. She’s a chameleon! She’s lucky she has the face to pull it off. And sometimes she’s like, ‘Cut it in a bob! We can just add if we want!’” Sounds like stellar advice to us!
